CONNECTIVITY HELP
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a way to transfer data between a mobile phone and a GSM provider. On this physical layer the operator added some software layers called WAP OVER GPRS and INTERNET OVER GPRS.
- WAP OVER GPRS uses one protocol called WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). This protocol uses a gateway that only lets pass the data packages containing WAP headers, the others being rejected. That's why if you open other connection than WAP the gateway will return an error.
- INTERNET OVER GPRS uses the HTTP protocol, which allows a mobile phone to connect to WEB pages and download files. This connection is more powerful than WAP but like WAP OVER GPRS this connection uses a gateway that acts as firewall and filters the packages. The WAP packages are ignored.
You usually use a WAP connection when downloading games. However, you will need a HTTP connection in order to download word packs from within the game. Some handsets can handle both without user intervention but some will require specific modifications in Internet settings.
If you get an error message when trying to download packs, you should check those settings and look up your carrier’s website for help on the Internet configuration.
